Park Circle

Park Circle

The City of North Charleston broke ground on a $20 million redevelopment project in Park Circle yesterday. The project will include a one-of-a-kind inclusive playground, which was carefully designed to allow children of all abilities to play together.

The Park Circle neighborhood is a bustling part of town with modest homes, a revitalized main street, and a lively dining and nightlife scene. The neighborhood also boasts a disc golf course around the traffic circle and is home to many festivals and parades throughout the year. This is a fantastic article to read.

1. Family Fun

A popular family activity in Charleston is exploring the city’s beautiful beaches. Whether you spend the day on Isle of Palms or Sullivan’s Island, both beaches provide ample room for the entire family to relax and soak up the sun.

Let your kids’ imaginations run wild at the Charleston Children’s Museum of Nature and Science, where exhibits and programs encourage learning through play. Or, head to Joe Riley Park and cheer on the Charleston Riverdogs baseball team! Kids can even get on the field after every game.

Those looking for a little retail therapy can head to the quaint Montague Avenue, where small local businesses offer artisan crafts and delicious treats. From the boutiques that stock clothing, accessories, and gifts to the ice cream shops, wine bars, and breweries, there is something for everyone in this trending neighborhood.

2. Disc Golf

Park Circle is less than ten miles from Charleston’s bustling downtown and boasts a neighborhood feel with local dining, recreation, and nightlife options. Easily walkable, Park Circle is peppered with parks, green spaces, and outdoor recreational areas like its disc golf course. The neighborhood’s main drag, East Montague Avenue, hosts a bustling strip of restaurants, breweries, and eclectic mom-and-pop shops.

A favorite stop for a quick pick-me-up is Orange Spot with delicious coffee and a fun, hip atmosphere. Or grab a craft beer at Commonhouse Aleworks with indoor and outdoor seating.

Disc golf is a popular pastime among Park Circle residents. The flat course features 19 holes on 5,000 square feet of land. Located between East Montague and Buist Avenues, the course is free to play. Owners Jared Hellman and Andrew Hare are no strangers to the area; they ran a college-friendly deli at the corner of King and Warren Streets called Bubba Slye’s. Since then, they’ve been experimenting with different business ventures including the new Odd Duck Market and hydroponic farming company Vertical Roots. Browse around this site.

3. Festivals & Parades

Park Circle Pride producers say that the week of events held last week brought people from all over the Lowcountry together. The event included a variety of different things to do like drag brunches, an LGBTQ youth fest and workshops, a dance party, a music stage, a community health forum, and more.

This year, the block party will be held on East Montague Avenue between Virginia and Jenkins Avenue with live music from multiple stages, street vending and fare from Olde North Charleston restaurants*, a Kid’s Zone, and a Christmas Tree Forest of sponsored Frasier Fir trees. Tree sponsorship registration is open to all on a first-come, first-served basis.

Thousands of twinkling lights transform Park Circle and the surrounding streets into a festive holiday gift for our community. Admission is free. The City encourages attendees to walk, bicycle, or rideshare as parking will be limited. Please note that traffic will be closed on some streets in the neighborhood during this time.

4. Shopping & Dining

If you like to shop, Park Circle and the Olde Village District along East Montague Avenue offer a wide variety of mom-and-pop boutiques that cater to eclectic tastes. If you prefer larger, high-end shopping experiences, Tanger Outlets is just minutes away.

The neighborhood is full of restaurants and bars, with many offering sidewalk dining when the weather permits. Diners can enjoy pizza from EVO, a local favorite that also bakes their own bread, or try out a new restaurant such as LoLA, which offers authentic Louisiana cuisine.

Wine lovers will find a lot to love at Stems & Skins, a wine bar that serves a wide selection of wines including pet-nat (a trendy fermented grape juice). This wine cellar also carries beer from local breweries. Park Pets is a locally beloved pet store that carries dog and cat food, toys, and treats. This shop even has a self-serve dog wash. Other popular spots include Accent on Wine and Roadside Blooms, a full-service floral design shop that teaches classes in floral arrangement. Up next is North Charleston Wannamaker County Park.
